Lottery Grant Funding Awarded for Torbay

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Reaching Communities lottery grant to support families in Torbay.

The £205,412 grant will be used to provide mentoring and befriending volunteers to families who are going through a difficult time.

Scheme Manager, Zoe Bell said, “Families can find themselves struggling for many reasons and we know that a listen ear, friendship and practical help can make all the difference. The funding also enables us to trial some new approaches to support, including support by text, phone or video messaging.  We are delighted to receive this funding which will allow us to help families over the next two years. There is a lot of need in the area. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who buys a lottery ticket!”

The project is now busy planning for it’s next, 1 day a week over 8 weeks, volunteer training course and are keen to hear from anyone with a couple of hours a week to spare.

Kathy, a volunteer explained the benefits of volunteering. “It’s been really good for my confidence as I was wanting to get back into work after being at home with my children for a few years. I was really surprised by the sense of achievement you get from knowing you are helping a family.”
